Server-Side Direct to Chip or Immersion Cooling

Server-side direct-to-chip cooling circulates liquid through cold plates mounted directly on CPUs, GPUs, and other high-power chips, then rejects that heat via CDUs and building water loops to enable higher rack densities and lower energy use than air cooling. Immersion cooling submerges entire servers in dielectric fluids, transferring heat from all components into the liquid before it is cooled through external heat exchangers, particularly in single-phase systems. Both approaches rely on tightly controlled coolant flow, temperature, and pressure to protect IT hardware and maintain efficiency.

Bürkert fits into both these architectures as the fluid control layer, supplying valves, sensors, and flowmeters that manage coolant distribution around CDUs, manifolds, racks, and immersion tanks. Typical roles include modulating and isolating flows to cold plates or tanks, balancing branches to prevent hot spots, and monitoring pressure, temperature, and flow to keep systems in safe operating windows. This control backbone supports stable chip temperatures, higher power densities, and optimized pump and chiller energy utilization.

Bürkert solenoid valves Types 2871, 2873, and 2875 are compact, direct-acting proportional 2-way valves suited for low-flow ancillary tasks in data center chillers. Type 2871 handles micro-flow chemical dosing (orifices ~0.05–2 mm) in bypasses or skids; 2873 manages small-to-moderate flows (~0.8–6 mm) for DI-water/glycol purges; and 2875 covers higher series flows (~2–9.5 mm) for gas regulation like nitrogen or air, offering tight seals and PWM-driven precision up to 10–25 bar.

Motor Valves: Type 3280, Type 3285 (option for on/off)

Type 3280

Electromotive 2-way globe proportional valve

Type 3280
  • Actuator is not wetted
  • Excellent setting range and fast reaction time
  • Low electrical power consumption
  • Connection orifice DN 8...15 | Kvs value 0,03…1,9 m³/h
  • Variants: standard, positioner, process controller and high-pressure variants for up to 22 bar
Type 3285

Electromotive 2-way globe proportional valve

Type 3285
  • Actuator isolated from flow path
  • Excellent range and fast response times
  • Low power consumption
  • Connection orifice DN 15...25 | Kvs value 1.8…9.6 m³/h
  • Variants: standard, positioner, process controller

The Type 3280 and Type 3285 are a good fit anywhere a data center chiller or liquid-cooling loop needs precise, electrically actuated modulation of flow or temperature set points, especially where air is limited and power efficiency matters.
