Recent changes to U.S. import tariffs have required us to adjust our surcharge structure, and we want to transparently share what this means for you.
What we’ve done so far to protect your pricing
- On April 4, 2025, following new tariffs imposed under IEEPA, Bürkert committed to hold pricing for all orders entered before June 30, 2025, despite the increased import costs.
- On June 13, 2025, we announced a temporary surcharge of 8–12% effective July 14, 2025. To provide additional relief, customers could place orders for delivery in 2025 without any surcharge, and many took advantage of this cost‑saving opportunity.
- As of July 14, 2025, new orders were subject to a flat 10% surcharge to help offset tariffs, administrative expenses, and related costs. Even then, Bürkert continued to absorb a portion of these costs internally.
Why surcharges are still necessary today
- On February 20, 2026, the IEEPA‑based tariffs were revoked. Soon after, a new 10% global tariff was imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act, effective February 24, 2026.
- On July 24, 2026, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative replaced the Section 122 measure with new Section 301 duties of 10% or 12.5% on imports from approximately 60 economies, including the European Union.
- Due to the continuation and expansion of federal Section 232 tariffs on essential metal inputs, including steel, aluminum, and copper, the recent federal trade updates apply broad duty rates ranging from 10% to 50% across key metal categories and derivative parts, significantly increasing raw material and import costs.
- As a result, the cost of bringing Bürkert products into the United States remains significantly higher than before, and a surcharge is still required to partially offset these external tariffs and related costs.
Our commitment going forward
Bürkert continues to absorb a portion of these costs that are not reflected in the current surcharge, and we are actively seeking ways to reduce expenses without compromising product quality, regulatory compliance, or service levels. We will keep you informed of any future changes to tariffs or surcharges and will adjust our pricing as conditions allow.
