Bürkert builds its food service valve portfolio around those exact priorities. These valves support compact machine design, tool-free maintenance, rapid component replacement, integrated fluid control systems, and real-time diagnostics, all engineered to reduce downtime and simplify operations for OEMs, equipment manufacturers, and end users.
And while the industry still calls them “coffee valves,” that label no longer reflects reality. Manuel Moreno, Product Manager Solenoid Valves (USA), explains that while these valves are commonly used in coffee equipment, their performance capabilities have expanded into a wide range of food service and beverage dispensing applications.
A New Category of Valves for Food Service Equipment Manufacturing
Bürkert’s food service valve lineup, featuring the Type 7015, 7016, 7017, 7018, and 7021 solenoid valves, delivers a flexible, high-performance solution for liquid handling, dosing systems, and automated dispensing equipment.
"These valves have FDA and NSF 169 Food and Beverage approvals. That means they can manage water, coffee, steam, syrups, dairy products, flavorings, and gases, so they are ideal for use in commercial beverage machines, vending systems, and automated food processing equipment," Moreno explains. "Their ability to operate in high-temperature and steam environments gives OEMs a clear advantage over traditional plastic valve designs, which often fail under those conditions."
While Bürkert applies a consistent engineering approach across the lineup, each valve supports a specific function within modern food service system design.
What Makes Each Bürkert Foodservice Valve Different
Type 7015: Compact Dosing Valve for Core Dispensing Functions
The Type 7015 is a 2/2-way direct-acting solenoid valve designed for precise dosing of neutral liquids and gases. Its compact footprint and fast response time make it ideal for water dispensing, ingredient delivery, and base fluid control in beverage equipment.
OEMs use the 7015 when they need reliable, high-cycle performance in space-constrained machine designs. It also performs effectively in hot water and light steam applications, making it a foundational component in many dispensing systems.
2/2-way solenoid valve, direct-acting
- 2/2-way plunger valve up to DN 2.7
- Tool-free coil and core changing (core with the aid of bayonet catch)
- Push-in and flange variant
- Approval/conformities for use in the food sector
- Suitable for applications with hot water and steam
Type 7016: Advanced Flow Control for Multi-Function Systems
The Type 7016 builds on the 7015 platform with a 3/2-way configuration, enabling flow switching, venting, and more complex fluid routing.
This added functionality makes it ideal for multi-stage dispensing processes and automated beverage systems that require greater control over fluid paths. It maintains durability in high-temperature and steam environments, giving equipment manufacturers more flexibility in system design without sacrificing reliability.

- Tool-free coil and core changing (core with the aid of bayonet catch)
- Push-in and flange variant
- Approval/conformities for use in the food sector
- Suitable for applications with hot water and steam
Type 7017: Hygienic, Media-Separated Valve for Sensitive Applications
The Type 7017 features a media-separated rocker solenoid design, ensuring that process media only contacts the valve body and seals. This protects internal components and supports compatibility with a wider range of fluids.
This valve is particularly well suited for food-grade applications, dairy systems, flavor dosing, and aggressive cleaning cycles, where hygiene and material compatibility are critical. Its low internal volume, strong sealing performance, and excellent flush ability help maintain clean-in-place (CIP) efficiency and product consistency.
3/2-way rocker solenoid valve with media separation
- 3/2-way rocker solenoid valve with universal circuit function up to DN 4
- Separating diaphragms for chemical resistance and full back pressure tightness thanks to rocker principle
- Fast diaphragm change without the need for tools
- Push-in and flange variant, stackable
- Approval/conformities for use in the food sector
Type 7018: Scalable Valve for Integrated Fluid Control Systems
The Type 7018 supports customized and scalable system designs, often integrated into Bürkert’s manifold and block solutions. This valve offers proportional control PWM frequency.
Equipment manufacturers choose Valve type 7018 when designing complex dispensing architectures, multi-line beverage systems, or modular equipment platforms. It allows for greater flexibility in system layout while maintaining Bürkert’s core advantages of easy maintenance and long-term reliability.

- Media separation through diaphragm separation system
- High back pressure tightness
- Push-in and threaded variant
- Approval/conformities for use in the food sector
Type 7021: For Accurate Modulation of Air or Liquid
This is a direct-acting electromagnetic proportional valve designed for precise open- and closed-loop control of neutral media. Unlike traditional on/off valves, the 7021 continuously regulates flow, making it ideal for applications requiring accurate modulation of air or liquid.
Originally developed for specialty beverage systems, the valve excels in applications such as milk foam generation through controlled air regulation and precise blending of water temperatures for black, green, and white tea preparation. With optionally available Quick Clip brackets or screw connections, the Type 7021 can be installed, serviced, and replaced quickly.

Custom Manifolds Deliver Pinpointed Diagnostics for Food Service Equipment
Bürkert often works with OEMs to create a custom manifold system, "We can create any number of valve solutions and incorporate sensors to the manifold," Moreno explains. "The manifold is a way to integrate a variety of flow, pressure, and analytical sensors directly into the fluid control system."
Instead of manually tracing tubing or disassembling equipment, custom manifolds empower operators to identify exactly which valve or component needs attention. When a system flags a specific valve, operators can bypass lengthy troubleshooting and move directly to resolution.
"Because Bürkert designs these valves for tool-free service," he adds, "OEMs can train even entry-level or hourly staff to perform replacements in the field. This reduces service calls, shortens repair times, and keeps equipment operating in high-demand environments like commercial kitchens, convenience retail, and vending locations."
From Fluid Components to Fully Integrated Systems
Bürkert supports food service OEMs by moving beyond individual components and delivering complete fluid control systems based on customer P&ID drawings.
"Instead of assembling multiple valves, fittings, and tubing runs, Bürkert consolidates flow paths into a compact manifold block," Moreno says. "This approach reduces equipment size, simplifies assembly, and minimizes leak points, all critical factors in high-volume equipment manufacturing and field reliability."
Moreno also highlights that this system-level design reduces both production time and long-term maintenance complexity. "It gives manufacturers a more efficient path from design to deployment."
Custom Engineering, Sensors, and Easy Maintenance by End Users
Bürkert delivers more than valves, it delivers engineered fluid control systems optimized for food service manufacturing environments. By combining custom manifolds with integrated sensors, Bürkert gives operators real-time insight into system performance while simplifying the overall architecture.
When issues arise, operators don’t lose time diagnosing or disassembling equipment. They identify the problem instantly, access the component easily, and complete the repair on the spot. Tool-free valve designs and intuitive system layouts allow OEMs to design equipment that can be maintained directly by end users or onsite staff.
The result is equipment that not only meets performance expectations, but also sustains them. Manufacturers reduce downtime, lower service costs, and deliver systems that perform reliably in the demanding environments where food service equipment operates every day.
