SUMMARY:
The Project Engineer is responsible for the development and deployment of electrical and automation solutions for customized, industrial fluidic systems and control cabinets. The candidate will act as the technical responsible engineer for the assigned projects from initial request, throughout conceptualization and prototyping up to start-up and serial production.
Technical evaluation of incoming project requests, capturing and outlining requirements, translation into technical specifications and concluding engineered solutions by applying sound engineering methods and best practices are essential, daily duties.
A “hands-on” mind-set, thinking “outside the box”, attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively in engineering- & cross-functional teams is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and development of the electrical and/or automation scope for customized fluidic system solutions based on customers' requirements & needs under consideration of capabilities, procedures, product portfolio and industry standards.
- Ownership of the technical responsibility for the assigned projects from evaluation of the initial request, throughout specification, conceptualization, development of prototypes up to start-up and serial production.
- Outline, design, provide, and manage creation of engineering documentation including programming schematics, programming code, CAD drawings, bill of materials, assembly- testing- and operating- instructions/manuals.
- Conceptualization, creation and commissioning of fieldbus networks, electrical control cabinets and PLC programming.
- Customer facing support in consultation and troubleshooting regarding automation networks and fieldbus integration of Burkert products.
- Preparation of cost calculations with respect to technical-, quality- & regulatory requirements, as well as assisting in creation of commercial offers.
- Assist in managing the projects based on documented company procedures and systems, including hands on supervision of system integration partners, subcontractors and/or internal departments/functions.
- Assist in verification and validation of production- & assembly- processes as per established quality management procedures.
- Provide engineering assistance and technical troubleshooting support to sales, quality, assembly and other departments as needed.
- As required: Drive, manage and/or support non-project related duties that fall under the responsibility of the systems engineering department (e.g. ECN-processes, continuous improvements, new software design, etc.)
- Contribute to product quality by providing the necessary tools, documentation, information and corrective actions per Burkert quality policy and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Engineering, Electrical, Computer Sciences or Mechatronics
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience working with fieldbus/industrial networks, panel design, and controls systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical (or comparable software)
- Experience with structured text, ladder-logic and wire-type programming methodologies
- Knowledge and experience of PLC programming (such as Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson, WAGO, etc.)
- Theoretical background and/or practical experience with control theory such as Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID), Window, and Cascade control schemes is preferred.
- Experience in process/piping control system engineering with working knowledge of various valve and instrumentation technologies is a plus.
- Expertise or qualifications around IPC/WHMA-A-620D and UL 508A is a plus.
